Pittsburgh Pennsylvania jazz group Indestructible pays tribute to the music and legacy of The Jazz Messengers, which was famously led by jazz greats Art Blakey and Horace Silver and featured the compositions of its legendary members such as Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and others. The Jazz Messengers were a jazz combo which existed for over thirty-five years beginning in the early 1950s as a collective, and only ended when long-time leader and founding drummer Art Blakey died in 1990. Indestructible was founded by trombonist and bandleader Reggie Watkins in 2021. The sextet features Pittsburgh hometown hero and former member of the Horace Silver Quintet, drummer - Roger Humphries. As a young musician Mr. Humphries was influenced and mentored by longtime leader of The Jazz Messengers and fellow Pittsburgh native, the great Art Blakey. Indestructible is a high energy three horn and rhythm section group that is deeply rooted in the Hard Bop tradition and exudes equal measures of blues infused improvisations, soulful arrangements and big band power.
